Data storytelling.

A smart tool does not make anyone Smart, it's the way a person uses it makes a difference.

Every organization must work on data more extensively than ever and needs it to be more effective. The tools have also changed their philosophy from a mere data warehouse to data smart analysis tools. The end-user wants the output to be more effective and actionable.

Spreadsheet users may be having years of experience or maybe just starting their careers. But you need to realize that a better job can be done. One needs to upgrade since we are exposed to more and better data storytelling all around us in all forms and media.

We need to have a strategic mindset shift and our data should inspire the consumer to take corrective actions and have a greater impact on the organization.

  • A new age learner should not overlook below points while doing data analysis -

  1. Data Literacy
  2. Communication Strategy
  3. Organising your Ideas
  4. Storytelling
  5. Visualisation
  6. Presentation skills
  7. Distraction free presentation

-----------------------------------

To Present the data you need to understand the data. This is data literacy.

While presenting the analysis do understand the audiance scope to decide on how deep the analysis should be. Ask your data relevant questions which your audiance would think of. This would make your data more richer and satisfying for your audiance. Many a times the findings are interesting but may not be relevant.

-----------------------------------

Pesentation should not merely be presenting collection of facts, it should be focused, remove all the noise, keep it organised. Ask the question WHY to each element if the answer is relevant then keep it else replace it. You need to take decisions with intentions. Know the audiance what they need to hear. Your presentation needs to be impactfull.

-----------------------------------

One should not stop only by depicting what has happened in the past in the data presentaion, it should rather end with providing the guidance for decision making.

Data analysis can be Descriptive, Predictive or Prescriptive.

-----------------------------------

Often there are multiple type of audiace for a single presentation. Understand who is Primary and secondary audiance and accordigle shift the focus. In such case try to group the audiance.
